Natural Turf

Do you love the smell of natural turf after that first cut of the year?

Would your aging garden look amazing with some natural lush, green grass?

Whether it’s the look of fresh-cut grass or the precision of a perfectly striped front lawn.

There is definitely something special about the sight and smell of real grass.

The beauty of natural turf

Real grass has many benefits. The environment loves it, for one. You’ll be doing your bit for CO2 reduction, without even knowing.

If you have a garden or landscaping project, and you’re considering a natural lawn, here are a few further benefits:

  • Real grass is great for the environment. It produces oxygen.
  • Grass reduces air pollution in and around your garden.
  • Natural turf also helps soak up excess water. In heavy rain, real turf provides natural drainage and so can ease surface flooding.
  • A natural lawn absorbs sound more effectively than a patio, decking, or other hard surfaces.
  • Turf is living and breathing. It creates a welcoming habitat for all sorts of animals and creatures. Nature is right on your doorstep. The kids will love it!
  • Mowing your lawn is a great full-body workout!

What surface can I lay a new lawn on?

The best growth and coverage will come when natural turf is laid from scratch on prepared soil.

We’re often asked if you can lay new turf on top of your existing lawn. But if your grass is brown, dead, or patchy then laying new turf on top of your lawn will not solve the problem.

It may be obvious to say but natural turf needs to be able to take root. Turf won’t grow on a solid surface. It needs air, water, and nutrients from the soil.

But whatever your current surface, we can prepare the ground for you so that your new lawn will root and be healthy and happy for many years to come.

Laying a natural lawn

Laying natural turf with precision is a skill. It takes patience and years of practice.

What you see above the surface is nothing compared to what goes on beneath.

It might be tempting to order just the right amount of natural grass and hope the ground is ok.

But the ground needs preparation. The soil needs aerating. Watering and then fertilising can all come into the equation too.

Because the seams of the turf have to be precisely put together, as it could shrink slightly, we would highly recommend leaving it to a professional turf laying company.
